MAIN CHARACTERS
Commanding Officer:
Captain T'Sara Frost
(female Vulcan/human)
Half-human, half-Vulcan, raised on Earth, later embraced several aspects of Vulcan mental discipline and training but learned to balance that with human emotion. Has naturally dark hair, like most Vulcans, but adds streaks of blonde and red depending on her mood. Can go ‘full Vulcan’ when necessary, but prefers to keep her emotions in check without totally suppressing them. Married to Science Officer Da Costa, and it was at her invitation that he accepted the position on the Courageous.
Executive Officer:
Lt. Commander Damien Erickson
(male human)
Served as X.O. under Courageous’ former C.O, Captain Donald Windsor for 3 and half years, joining the crew just before after the Klingons and Cardassians came to blows, and despite being his first X.O. position, has proven himself up to the tasks at hand time and again. Harbours some resentment for recently being passed over for a command of him own, feeling his time aboard should have earned him that right. Cocky and arrogant at times, especially when dealing with his new commanding officer, but has earned the respect of his junior officers, due to his habit of leading from the front. Having come up through the security division of Starfleet, he has seen a lot of direct conflict, and has many a scar as a result.
Chief Science Officer:
Commander (Dr.) Leonardo Da Costa
(male human)
One of the older members of the crew, the husband of Captain Frost, who when offered command of the Courageous, offered him the vacant science officer’s position, in order for them to serve together for a while, since the ship’s primary scientific mission is exploring and mapping the region Star Station Charlie oversees. A generalist, Leonardo has a background in almost every science discipline, making him a perfect candidate for Science Officer, although his passion is stellar cartography and astrophysics. He also has a love of classical music and plays the violin in his free time, accompanied by his wife on her Vulcan lyre.
Chief Medical Officer:
Dr. Nyia Lanjar
(female Betazoid, civilian)
A Betazoid, raised on Delta IV, instructed in the healing arts since childhood, she decided to put her knowledge to use with Starfleet, signing on as a civilian medical officer during the Dominion War, and continued to serve once the war came to a close. Once care-free and vivacious, seeing time as a combat medic has hardened her, and although she is happy to continue serving aboard starships, she longs for some peace from pain. Although she considered retiring from duty, and returning to Delta IV, she was approached by T'Sara, an old acquaintance to join her on the Courageous. With it being an out of the way assignment, she accepted, hoping it would allow her to conduct more research, her second love, since she should not be seeing combat as often as before.
Chief Engineer:
Lt. Commander Hroviin Bhrash
(male Bolian)
Blessed with an above average aptitude for mechanical engineering, Hroviin Bhrash's skill flourished under the tutelage of his human governess while his birth parents focused more on social climbing then their family dynamic, and he was more then happy to get away from it all by joining Starfleet Academy. The former senior assistant chief engineer of the Courageous, he is a hold over from the former crew, replacing the previous chief after her death during the Dominion War, and was placed in charge of the refit and rebuild after the battle of Cardassia Prime. He then stayed on once the ship was returned to active duty and assigned to it’s current position, hoping that the generally slow work giving him plenty of time to tweak and refine the ship’s systems more to his liking.
Ship’s Counselor/Contact Specialist:
Lt. Commander R‘Nara Kellinnin
(female Orion)
Originally raised to be an Orion ‘slave girl’, and take over running her family’s pirating/slave trade business, R’Nara instead ran away from home and was taken in by a passing trade ship and it’s crew as their unofficial mascot. There, she nutured a love of space travel, and learning about other races, and developed her natural talent for languages as well as being a talented amateur psychologist. This eventually lead her to Starfleet Academy where she excelled in her studies and worked her way up through a variety of shipboard and station-based positions, not eager to be tied down for too long, finding it easier to maintain a professional detachment from her fellow crewmates.
Chief Security/Tactical Officer:
Lieutenant Alexis Matthias
(female human)
Formerly the assistant chief of security aboard the Courageous, she earned a battlefield promotion to the rank of full lieutenant after replacing her superior who was killed during their most recent skirmish with the Orion Syndicate. Although relatively young, she moved up the ranks of security quickly due to the toll of the war on Starfleet personnel. Happiest in the phaser range, where she is a crack shot, or practicing all kinds of martial arts moves in the gymnasium, she takes her duty seriously, and keeping the ship and crew safe is her number one priority. She particularly blames herself for the death of Captain Windsor, feeling that she failed in her duty to protect the Captain from harm, despite the circumstances.
Chief Ops Officer:
Lieutenant, j.g, Jhisinsher ch'Lene
(male Andorian)
Inspired by a badly regarded family member who joined Starfleet, ch’Lene is a solitary soul, having never joined a bond group of his own, due to a genetic condition that makes him unable to contribute to the creation of any offspring. More comfortable with computer systems then people, he excelled in his chosen studies at Starfleet Academy, and tends to focus on his duty to the detriment of his social skills, which has quickly lead to him making his way from being a low-ranked junior technician to an senior specialist. However, due to his poor social skills, his rank hasn’t been as quickly promoted as his duties, because of his inability to interact with people outside of them. As a result, he has often bounced from one assignment to another, mostly at starbases or smaller ships, the Courageous being his first cruiser-based assignment since his graduation.
Chief Flight Control Officer:
Lieutenant, j.g, Aseema Singh
(female human)
The latest in a long line of Starfleet Academy graduates from her family, Aseema broke the tradition of joining up as a science specialist by instead putting her natural talents as a pilot to use. Although she has the brains and intellect to hold her own in any scientific argument she comes across, and even took electives in several scientific disciplines while at the Academy, it is at the helm of a starship where she feels the most comfortable and the most relaxed. A bit of a party girl, she knows how to have a good time, although it can get her into trouble with superiors when she pushes the envelope a little too far while on shore leave.
RECURRING CHARACTERS
U.S.S. COURAGEOUS PERSONNEL
Strategic Operations Officer:
Lt. Commander Ravin Ulyn
(male Bajoran)
Raised off-world in a resettlement camp, Ravin Ulyn was one of the first Bajorans to attend Starfleet Academy and distinguished himself admirably. Having attended Advanced Tactical Training, he put what he learnt into practice as a tactical officer and strategics specialist on starbases and starships for nearly two decades before resigning his commission to join up with the Maquis. Surviving the massacre perpetrated by the Dominion in the opening days of the war, he tried to settle into the life of a civilian in Federation territory, until he was recruited by Starfleet Intelligence as an unofficial asset.
Assistant Chief Engineer, U.S.S. Courageous:
Lieutenant Elyse Karrin
(female Trill, unjoined)
The black sheep of her family, Elyse left behind a sure shot at getting into the Initiate Program when she realized she had no interest in joining beyond her parents adamant wish for it. Excelling at the Academy in starship engineering, she worked for several years at Utopia Planitia, and lead one of the secondary refit teams assigned to the Starship Courageous. When her tour was coming to an end, she was recruited by Chief Engineer Bhrash to join his team as assistant chief.
Assistant Chief Medical Officer, U.S.S. Courageous:
Dr . (Lieutenant) Daniel Whitaker
(male human)
Originally assigned to the Courageous as part of the medical staff under Captain Windsor, Whitaker worked his way up from staff physician to assistant chief medical officer in short order. A skilled surgeon and trauma specialist, with natural empathy for his patients and a desire to do right by them. But the recent death of his fiance during the Syndicate attack that put the Courageous in dock for several months caused a deep pain he is still recovering from.
Assistant Chief Security/Tactical Officer, U.S.S. Courageous:
Lieutenant, j.g, Avery Fischer
(male human)
Originally a junior warden with the Federation Department of Corrections, who worked at several of the Federation's more notorious penal settlements before enlisting in Starfleet in late 2371, during the Federation-Klingon War. After serving on several ground assault teams, he was commissioned to the rank of Ensign after serving with distinction and receiving several commendations for valor and selflessness. One of the more recent additions to the Courageous crew, joining the ship alongside Captain Frost and other new transfers.
Junior Science Officer, U.S.S. Courageous:
Ensign Megan Kingsley
(female human)
The daughter of a renown Federation diplomat and a career Starfleet science officer, Megan Kingsley had visited a dozen far off places by her 10th birthday. No one was surprised when she followed her father's footsteps into Starfleet. Graduated in the middle of her class, despite high test scores due to a few black-marks and reprimands on her Academy record, since she lacks her mother's diplomatic skills. Commissioned early during the second year of the Dominion War and assigned duty on a monitoring station near the Federation/Breen border, a seemingly dead-end assignment. She was one of a handful of survivors when the Breen attacked the station before being pushed back by Allied forces. After her recovery on Earth and a stint working at Starfleet Research, the Courageous is her first mission back in space.
S.S. LUCKY SHOT CREW
Shipmaster, Lucky Shot:
Varrak-Sar Kellinnin
(male Orion)
Younger brother to R’Nara Kellinnin, groomed to be the new ‘face’ of the family company, while R’Nara would rule from behind the scenes. However, a genetic fluke makes him one of a handful of Orion males immune to the pheromone influences of the females so he struck out on his own. He hates the Syndicate and all they stand for, and works with his motley crew of outsider and renegades to do what he can to keep the cartels at bay, standing up for those who cannot do it for themselves. The ‘Lucky Shot’, a Klingon B’rel-class scout, is his personal flagship, one of several vessels salvaged to maintain a protective presence throughout the Astraeus Sector.
Medic/Scientist, Lucky Shot:
Saren
(female Romulan)
Engineer, Lucky Shot:
Re'Kan., son of Krovak
(male Klingon)
MISC PERSONNEL
Administrator, Star Station Charlie
Jaicyn Norvin
(male El-Aurian)
One of the ‘lucky few’ to escape the destruction of his home world, Norvin was already middle-aged for an El-Aurian when he started his wanderings through the galaxy, looking for somewhere to call home. At Star Station Charlie, he finally found somewhere he felt he could put roots, soon finding gainful employment as the station administrator, his years of experience dealing with other alien cultures considered a boon. He has been in charge of all day to day activities of the station ever since, and has seen many people and businesses come and go, and he likes nothing better then a quiet orderly station where nothing much happens.
Deputy Intelligence Coordinator, Starbase 19, Astraeus Sector
Lt. Commander Laila Nazir
(female human)
A dedicated if inexperienced intelligence analyst who is learning that sometimes it takes bending the rules to get the job done properly. One of the many in recent years who has turned to religion given the recent devastation the Federation has endured. A follower of the teachings of Islam, as they have changed and are now interpreted in the 24th century after religion on Earth seemed to fade into the winds of time. Like Bajorans who are allowed to wear their earrings on duty now, Laila is allowed to observe Islamic hijab while on duty, and often prays in the station chapel.
